June 7 Link Round-up

Ahhh the good old days, when girls got pregnant then moved into the "home" with their bastard kids.... and then died and got buried in the septic tank.  The Friendly Atheist has been following the sordid past of Irish Catholicism.

"Something Awful" forum was the source for the myth that led two twelve-year-old girls to attempt to murder a friend.  They believed the mythical creature, invented in 2009, was real.  And yet nobody can believe that Paul made up the Christ story 20 years after the supposed events?  Uhhh, yep, myths can be invented.

Fundamentalism is harming Christianity.  Christians with brains are embarrassed by this version of religion.  And everyone else is outraged.

Vultures seen on Washington, D.C.'s infamous K Street, where lobbyists have their offices.  Are they there to feed on the lobbyists, or are they just visiting their brethren?

In the wake of the UCSB shooting, Arthur Chu's essay in The Daily Beast sets nerd-guys straight on the error of the video game/ Hollywood narrative of earning female attention (from the hot chick, naturally) through hard work and just trying harder.  Essential quotation:  "other people’s bodies and other people’s love are not something that can be taken nor even something that can be earned—they can be given freely, by choice, or not."

Jerry Coyne and the FFRF take on a high school principal who used his bully pulpit to talk about God in a graduation speech.  This has been going on for years but this year someone uploaded it to youtube.   Latest post hereSome students in the audience were non-believers, though.  Naturally, being a Christian bully, the principal was able to delude himself that he truly represented the community.  If everyone else has been silenced, who's to set him straight?  The court system perhaps?  Search "Lebanon" on Coyne's website for more quotes and continued drama.  Much like Muncie of a year ago, the ignorant citizens of Lebanon are getting a belated education in civil law.  Note the abysmal test results in government for the school.  Perhaps that's the reason for community support - they were victims of his dishonest teaching method.

A new youtube vlogger posted Atheism 101.  Show your support and give her an upvote for a well-thought out presentation.

Viral article link about atheism (at least on my FB feed) talks about newer atheism.  The only bit I really related to is that what we have in common is that we embrace reality.  The article has lingo that I would have to be under 30 to understand but it was an interesting read.

Video of the week:  Youth "Pastor Nate" tries to be funny.   Beating up women with a baseball bat?  Ummm no, not funny:
