edited to add: The press are being lazy or dishonest about the accountability of the West fertilizer plant and the collusion of Texas legislators in not protecting the public. Oh, and the legislators who want the feds to cough up disaster relief money for this man-made disaster voted against relief for Hurricane Sandy. Nice folk.

For me as I grew there were two great scientists--Mr Wizard on TV and Asimov writing books(nonfiction as well as SciFi), then came the awe inspiring Sagan and now we have Tyson. Mr Wizard sorta got replaced with Bill Nye and he is OK but for awe inspiring talk there is Tyson.
I don't remember any sciency people on TV when I was a kid :-( except maybe the professor on Gilligan's Island... and then my generation became gullible hippie types who believe pseudoscience and anti-government conspiracy theories.
